A multidisciplinary cardiology department with interventional capabilities will open in May in Novopolotsk, based at the local hospital. This was announced to journalists by Vladislav Podpalov, the chief freelance cardiologist of the main healthcare department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
Over the past five years, high-tech methods for treating heart diseases have been actively implemented in the Vitebsk region. Two catheterization laboratories are operational in Vitebsk, a similar laboratory recently opened in Orsha, and from May, one will also be available in Novopolotsk with the opening of the multidisciplinary cardiology department at the city hospital. "Thanks to this, almost the entire region will be covered by European-level care for patients with acute coronary syndrome and myocardial infarction. Residents of Novopolotsk, Polotsk, and the entire district will be within a two-hour delivery zone to the multidisciplinary department. If interventional treatment is indicated, it will be performed immediately, which significantly reduces the probability of a fatal outcome," noted Vladislav Podpalov.
The new laboratory will serve patients from the six nearest districts of the region if necessary. In the future, a catheterization laboratory will be established in Miory based at a future cardiology center, the construction of which will be the result of public-private partnership.
According to the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Cardiology Center, elevated blood pressure is registered in almost 30% of the adult population of the region. Since 2010, the center has maintained a regional database of patients who have undergone cardiac surgery, which includes over 2,000 individuals with implanted pacemakers. In recent years, the mortality rate from circulatory system diseases in the region has been decreasing: in the overall structure of mortality, they do not exceed 47% (compared to 55-56% in Belarus).
On the Day of Heart Disease Prevention, which will be celebrated on April 18 this year, a hotline on cardiovascular disease prevention will be held at the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Cardiology Center. Calls will be accepted from 10:00 to 15:00 at the phone number 8(0212)52-69-27.
