There are sufficient grounds for upgrading Belarus's credit rating. This was stated to journalists in Vienna by Finance Minister Maksim Yermolovich, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
The Minister said that within the framework of the official visit of the President of Belarus, he has a busy schedule. Maksim Yermolovich noted that Belarus has significant credit cooperation with Austrian financial institutions. Meetings with representatives of the Austrian Control Bank and the Austrian Development Bank are still to take place. "We will try to find new mechanisms for cooperation. We will again discuss the current assessment of Belarus's creditworthiness and the possibilities for upgrading the country's credit rating in the near future," he said.
According to the Minister, these are very important issues for expanding investment and credit cooperation not only with Austria but also with the European Union and the USA in general, as financial models for implementing investment projects are currently coming to the forefront. "There is indeed a lot of financial resources in the world. And the opportunities to attract them for long terms at low interest rates are becoming a key element of competitive struggle in the implementation of such projects," emphasized the head of the Ministry of Finance.
He is confident that there are more than enough grounds for upgrading Belarus's credit rating. This is confirmed, in particular, by the country's impeccable payment discipline and the stable state of the economy over several years. "Therefore, we expect an objective assessment of our creditworthiness. And this objective assessment – an upgrade of the country's credit rating – will allow us to significantly expand credit interaction with our partners both in Austria and in the EU as a whole in the future. This is a serious alternative to other financial instruments that are currently offered by almost all key countries of the world," said Maksim Yermolovich.
