Andrei Romashko, Head of the Housing Management Department of the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services, explained on February 21 during the "Kontury" program on the ONT channel why utility bills have become so much higher, BelTA reports.

As Andrei Romashko noted, the increase in the cost of utility services for January is due to several aspects. "This is not only a general increase in tariffs for housing and communal services. The main factor - 50 percent or more - is the weather conditions. If in December the average temperatures were positive, then in January frosts were observed," said Andrei Romashko.

On average, housing and communal services tariffs have increased by 5-30%. The tariff for water supply and sanitation has more than tripled compared to December. However, according to the head of the department, this line item does not occupy a large share in the total payment.

New lines have appeared in the January utility bills. For example, "sanitary maintenance of common areas of residential buildings". If residents do not want to pay for this service, they can tidy up the common areas themselves. This requires the consent of all residents of the entrance and the approval of the duty schedule.
