The Ministry of Defence proposes to introduce mandatory military registration specialties for students with deferment. This was stated by the Minister of Defence, Andrei Ravkov, on the air of the "Belarus 1" TV channel, according to BELTA.
"We are preparing a proposal so that those who have been granted deferment from service, while receiving education, will necessarily master a military registration specialty. We also proposed that a person after service, in relation to other young people who evade the army, should have advantages in admission, dormitory allocation and job placement, given equal scores," said Andrei Ravkov.
The Minister noted that the President of Belarus spoke about the prestige of military service, and about the fact that only after it can a man be called a man, on October 5 last year at the 174th training ground Domano in Ivacevichi district.
As Andrei Ravkov emphasised, the Ministry of Defence regularly monitors the opinions of young people and conducts surveys among those who have completed their conscript service. And 84% of respondents believe that the army has given them only positive emotions: they have become stronger, more mature, prepared for adult life, and have learned how to communicate with people.
And for IT specialists who are undergoing conscript service and do not want to lose their skills, an IT company has been created in Belarus. Its purpose is to develop software, special and applied programs in conjunction with the units of the Military Academy, other scientific and educational institutions. Among the projects the academy is involved in, those related to military operations modelling, navigation support, and the development of automated control and radar systems are of key importance. "The IT company was received positively, with a competition of about eight people per place. The guys are focused on work, their eyes are shining," the minister said.
Andrei Ravkov also recalled that in 2019, the State Defence Plan for 2020-2024 will be adjusted. "Work has begun, and an updated plan will be presented to the President at the end of the year," he concluded.
