September 12, Minsk /BELTA/. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection proposes Belarusians to support the "World Cleanup 2013. Let's do it!" campaign, the ministry's press secretary Olga Lelyukova told a BELTA correspondent.
This year, the campaign will be held on September 14. "Anyone can join the community cleanup on this day. To do this, you need to choose a cleanup site (a polluted forest park area, a reservoir bank, a recreation area, or any other), set a time for the event, and find like-minded people," explained Olga Lelyukova. The collected waste can either be disposed of in the nearest stationary container or arrangements can be made with local utility services for its removal. "You can also confidently contact the district or city inspectorates of natural resources and environmental protection for assistance," added the press secretary.
As clarified by the Director of the Center for Environmental Solutions, Yevgeny Lobanov, the campaign is not centralized. This means that anyone can act as its organizer in their city, town, school, or yard. "Based on the experience of last year's large-scale cleanup, volunteers should think in advance about how many people will be needed to clean the chosen territory. It is necessary to stock up on large garbage bags, cotton work gloves, and other necessary equipment," advised Yevgeny Lobanov.
The international "World Cleanup" campaign has been held worldwide since 2008. Traditionally, 90 countries participate in it, with volunteers cleaning forest belts, river and reservoir banks, and recreation areas. Belarus will support the campaign for the second time this year; the country first participated in the world cleanup in 2012. -0-
