The scope of tasks assigned to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection is broad. "Initiatives are needed to improve the functioning of the labour market, the system of material incentives for employees, and to unleash business activity," noted Vasily Zharko. The ministry's staff, together with the new head, will have to continue work in the pension sphere, as well as in implementing the most rational forms of social services for citizens.
The Ministry of Labour system includes 80 boarding schools, 146 territorial centres for social services, and other organisations, employing over 37.5 thousand people. "This system must be managed effectively, and its further functioning must be improved and optimised," emphasised the Deputy Prime Minister. Therefore, according to him, another task for the new minister is to take a fresh look and, within a sufficiently short period, assess the functioning of the entire social and labour sphere, the work of the central apparatus of the ministry, and local labour and social protection authorities. The head of the department will have to make reasoned proposals regarding both structure and personnel. "Everything must be as balanced and thoughtful as possible," said Vasily Zharko.
In addition, under the leadership of Irina Kostevich, the Ministry of Labour will have to strengthen the positive demographic trends that were achieved in previous years.
The new Minister of Labour and Social Protection, Vasily Zharko, described him as a competent, experienced, and modern-thinking leader with the necessary knowledge, business, and organizational skills. The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection is one of the key ministries in the government structure, he recalled. Each of the areas under his supervision requires not only deep professional knowledge but also the closest cooperation with state bodies at the republican and local levels. Irina Kostevich intends to meet with all heads of structural divisions in the near future and listen to their proposals for improving work in the areas for which they are responsible.
