30 September, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. Miory, Postavy and Sharkovshchina districts are the first in the Vitebsk region to complete potato harvesting, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
As of 30 September, only a few hectares remained to be harvested in these regions. In Sharkovshchina and Miory districts, it is about 3 hectares, and in Postavy district, 13 hectares. Full completion of potato harvesting here is planned for 1 October. Within the first half of next week, other regions of the oblast will also cross the finish line, as most of them have already harvested over 80% of the areas.
In total, in the Vitebsk region, potatoes have been harvested from 5.2 thousand hectares, or 79.1% of the areas. Almost 105 thousand tons of potatoes have been dug with an average yield of 201.5 centners per hectare. Tolochin district is the undisputed leader in yield, where over 500 centners are dug from 1 hectare. Good yields (over 210 centners per hectare) are also being harvested in Vitebsk, Gorodok and Polotsk districts.
Farms in the region will also cross the 50 percent mark in vegetable harvesting today: out of 1039 hectares, 513 hectares were harvested by morning, as noted in the Regional Committee for Agriculture and Food. 2.2 thousand tons of cabbage, 4.5 thousand tons of beetroot, 3.2 thousand tons of carrots, and 1.3 thousand tons of onions have been collected. Full completion of vegetable harvesting is planned by the regional rural workers' festival "Dazhynki-2011", which will be held on 7 October in Liozno.-0-
