The youth of Novopolotsk will perform 55 good deeds to mark the anniversary of their hometown, as reported to BELTA correspondent by Irina Kaspoutis, Deputy Head of the Education Department for Ideological Work of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee. The initiative to perform good deeds in honor of their hometown was adopted by the children's parliament and student youth of Novopolotsk from Polotsk, which celebrated its 1150th anniversary this year. Students and pedagogical staff of kindergartens, schools, secondary vocational educational institutions, universities, youth, public, and volunteer organizations, as well as representatives of enterprises and organizations, etc., are invited to participate in the initiative. More detailed information can be found on the website of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee. Applications for participation should be submitted to the city education department. Currently, about 30 different teams have officially expressed their desire to participate in the campaign, with their proposals related to landscaping, cultural, charitable, and other projects. "It is important that people are not waiting for the city's anniversary to approach, but are already performing good deeds," emphasized Irina Kaspoutis. Four good deeds have already been counted towards the 55 planned. In particular, in one of the city's kindergartens, young graduates, together with their parents and teachers, planted a "Garden for the Soul" in September, which will be expanded annually by subsequent preschoolers. The city education department and the local branch of the Peace Fund organized a charitable event "Together to School" for children from large families, low-income families, and other categories on the eve of the new academic year. As a gift to Novopolotsk, students of secondary school No. 14 opened September with an exhibition of works by talented children, and Polotsk State University dedicated a collection of fairy tales, which the university's students and teachers had been composing for two years, to the anniversary. After publication, the collection is planned to be distributed in kindergartens, school libraries, and children's social institutions in the city. "The youth parliament's campaign has found a response and support among the residents of Novopolotsk, so it is possible that we will meet the anniversary with a much larger number of good deeds, which is undoubtedly pleasing," concluded Irina Kaspoutis.
