The youth campaign "Plant Your Tree!" will take place in Polotsk from April 4-6, BELTA was informed by the press service of the Polotsk District Executive Committee.

The campaign is timed to coincide with the Forest Week and events organised in Polotsk in connection with it being the youth capital of Belarus this year. Over three days, schoolchildren, students, military personnel, and young specialists will plant more than 500 thuya trees on the premises of enterprises, organisations, and institutions.

The saplings were provided by the Polotsk Forestry Enterprise, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. In honour of the anniversary of the Polotsk Forestry Enterprise, an alley will be planted on April 4 – 80 thuya trees will adorn the territory of Secondary School No. 15 in Polotsk. "A school forestry club 'Ranitsa' operates at this educational institution, and the young foresters will become participants of the festive campaign," the press service explained.

"Planting a tree symbolises the continuity of traditions, reliability and eternity, the renewal of life, prosperity, and the connection between generations. In addition, there is a tradition of marking any undertaking with the planting of a tree. The thuya is considered the tree of life," the press service noted.

Masterclasses on the proper planting of trees will be held during these days in all forestry units of the Polotsk District.

Organisers are the Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Polotsk District Executive Committee and the State Forestry Enterprise "Polotsk Forestry Enterprise".
