Scammers in disguise as operators: how a resident of Lepel district lost money due to deception

A resident of Lepel district fell victim to fraudsters posing as employees of SOOO "MTS". The woman received a call via the WhatsApp messenger, during which a man introduced himself as a mobile operator employee and offered to change her tariff plan.

Subsequently, using this malicious application, the attackers were able to open a bank account in her name, as well as take out a loan under the "NavVsyo400" service and steal funds. An investigation is underway regarding this incident.

The police remind:
– mobile operator employees do not call subscribers via messengers and do not use foreign operator numbers, nor do they demand to change passwords dictated to them, extend the validity of SIM cards or contracts;
– contracts with MTS are concluded indefinitely and are automatically renewed;
– if you receive a call via any messenger from an unknown or foreign number, do not disclose personal data, terminate the conversation and contact the official MTS contact centre (0890) to verify the information;
– the "My MTS" application can only be downloaded from the official Google Play, App Store, and AppGallery stores;
– never install applications via links received from unknown sources through messengers or sent as an APK file;
– to resolve any issues related to MTS services, use only the official communication channels indicated on the company's official website.
