"Euphrosyne of Polotsk" mosaic, assembled from 31 thousand postage stamps, will adorn one of the exhibitions at the Belarusian Written Language Day celebrations in Polotsk, the press service of the Polotsk District Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
“The district executive committee received an email from Minsk collector Viktor Yaznevich, who proposed to exhibit his work at the celebrations dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian printing – a large mosaic depicting Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk, made from 31 thousand used postage stamps. We are currently deciding where exactly it is best to exhibit this unusual panel. As an option, it could be a post office building or another institution located close to the celebration zone,” the district executive committee noted.
The mosaic has been exhibited before, for example, at a philatelic exhibition in Mogilev dedicated to the city's 750th anniversary. It was also featured at the international philatelic exhibition "Belphila-2017". The exhibit is made from used stamps, mainly of the 14th standard issue, measuring 4.3 by 3.3 meters. As Viktor Yaznevich explained, he works for a Minsk company that handles extensive postal correspondence. "I encountered many stamps on envelopes – it was a pity to throw them away. I collected these stamps and came up with a way to use them," said the author.
The events of the republican holiday Belarusian Written Language Day will take place in Polotsk from September 1st to 3rd.
