On September 15, the Miory District will host the traditional ecological festival "Cranes and Cranberries of the Miory Region," the organisers informed BELTA.
It is in September that the cranberry harvesting season opens, and the Miory District is rich in this berry. Every year, over 4,000 grey cranes and tens of thousands of geese of various species stop to rest at the local Yelnya bog during their autumn migration. During the festival, guests will be able to taste cranberries and dishes made from the berry, as well as participate in bird watching with ornithologists and visit the eco-trail on the Yelnya bog. In addition, an interesting initiative will be launched during the festival – the creation of a unique museum of cranes and cranberries, the exhibits for which will be collected through the efforts of local residents and all interested parties.
The rich programme includes the competition and presentation "Crane Bazaar-2019" among the rural homesteads of the Miory District, performances by creative groups from the region and guests from Latvia. The folk group Pawa will delight residents on the stage of the city park. Master classes, tastings, an interactive photo zone, the "Akhova ptushak Batskaushchyny" association's area, a mobile planetarium, quests, and eco-shopping will also be available for children and adults.
This year, the festival "Cranes and Cranberries of the Miory Region" has gained new momentum for development: it has become part of the large-scale project "Together for Community and Nature: Strengthening the Development Process in the Miory District through Partnership between Local Authorities and Civil Society." The initiative is implemented with the financial support of the European Union.
The festival is organised by the Miory District Executive Committee, the public association "Akhova ptushak Batskaushchyny," and the Latvian Rural Forum.
