President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko demands greater localisation in domestic production, particularly at the Motovelo plant. He stated this during his visit to the enterprise in Minsk, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
The President noted that many components are currently purchased abroad and emphasised the need to strive for domestic production. For example, the localisation for certain products is only around 20%, and in the current global situation, with sanctions pressure, such an approach carries certain risks.
"We must make our own!" stressed the Head of State. "To import parts and assemble them here… That's fine with the Chinese (the Motovelo plant purchases components from China. – BELTA’s note), we have good relations. It should be our own, as much as possible. And this applies to all motorcycles and bicycles."
Alexander Lukashenko was generally dissatisfied with what he saw, noting the slow implementation of previously outlined plans. In this regard, the Head of State expressed strong criticism towards the responsible officials. "There's nothing to look at. This is not work! This work is needed by no one," said the President.
