Today, COVID-19 presents a challenge not only to doctors, virologists, and microbiologists,
but to every individual. It is important to understand that ignoring safety rules
only exacerbates the situation, while the informed actions of each person gain significant strength and
contribute to overall success in the fight.
In the Lepel district, every enterprise and organization has become an island of defence
against the spread of the virus. For instance, at the Lepel district gas supply department of PU "Chashnikigas", all measures recommended by the Ministry of Health have been implemented.
We are heading there with Natalia Tarasova, an assistant hygienist doctor from the district centre of hygiene and epidemiology.
This organization can serve as an example of compliance with
preventive measures against coronavirus infection.
Trade unions play a significant role for gas workers during this challenging period. In
the unified trade union organization of UP "Vitebskoblgaz", a mutual aid fund has been established, to which at least 50 percent of the trade union budget is allocated for providing assistance to trade union members in case of illness, as well as for conducting quarantine measures.
However, we are not focusing on that right now. As noted previously, to enter the building
of the Lepel district gas supply department, one must ring the doorbell. Entry is not permitted without a mask. Upon entering the premises, anyone will notice a container with disinfectant
on the wall. Here, one can also put on disposable gloves and familiarise themselves with information about coronavirus infection displayed on a stand.
As the director of the enterprise, Dmitry Bulanchikov, noted, they have been strictly
adhering to the methodological recommendations for COVID-19 prevention for over a year. Daily, before the start of the working day, an "entry filter" is conducted to prevent employees with signs of respiratory infection from coming to work; body temperature is also monitored.
In the near future, a thermal imaging camera will be installed here for
automated body temperature measurement, along with a screen. Additionally,
a video intercom system is being installed, which will minimise direct contact between
employees and visitors to the enterprise.
There are no issues here with personal protective equipment either. The production
republican unitary enterprise "Vitebskoblgaz" has a sewing workshop where reusable masks are manufactured.
Additionally, the branch has a designated area for washing and ironing masks with a hot iron. Each vehicle is equipped with a plague-control suit and a protective mask. During calls, the dispatcher always inquires whether there are any individuals with coronavirus infection or self-isolating at home. If so, the RGS employee dons a protective suit before entering the premises. Subsequently, clothing is placed under a UV lamp for disinfection, which was also acquired at the beginning of the epidemiological period.
What is the situation with vaccination at the enterprise?
It turns out that the staff is 100 percent vaccinated. Dmitry Viktorovich was among the first to get vaccinated, thereby setting an example for his employees.
— How did you manage to achieve such a high result? After all, at some enterprises, employees are reluctant to get vaccinated…
— Thanks to clearly organised information and awareness-raising efforts. Together with the staff of the regional Centre for Hygiene and Epidemiology, we debunked myths and fears about the new vaccine, and the positive experience of colleagues who had been vaccinated also helped. Gradually, the number of vaccinated individuals grew.
Those who work with clients were vaccinated first, with the exception of those who had recently recovered from the illness and had contraindications due to their health condition.
We also visited the "One-Stop Shop" service at RGS. Even during the decline in coronavirus infections, the employees are behind protective screens, wearing special masks and gloves. The visitor desk is equipped with hand sanitiser and disinfectant wipes for cleaning shared items.
After seeing all this, I asked the director: "How many cases of coronavirus infection have been registered at your enterprise in recent months?"
— Cases of illness at the enterprise are isolated and mostly mild. For the last 3 weeks, all employees have been on duty, at their workplaces. This suggests that vaccination helps a person to protect themselves from severe COVID-19 and adverse outcomes, — noted Dmitry Viktorovich.
It is worth adding that revaccination has already begun within the team.
During the conversation, Natalia Egorovna thanked the director for his work and care for his team and reminded that wearing personal protective equipment in public places is a necessary measure for ensuring greater safety, which should not be neglected.

In conclusion, it should be noted that the employees of the gas service are also engaged in a good cause. From the established Assistance Fund of UP "Vitebskoblgaz", which includes the Lepel gas supply region, sponsorship has been provided to healthcare institutions in Vitebsk for the purchase of sanitary masks and a medical compressor unit for supplying compressed air to anesthesia and respiratory equipment and artificial lung ventilation devices, to the amount of 3,496.36 rubles.
It is evident that a friendly atmosphere prevails within the RGS team, the employees work in comfortable conditions and will greet the New Year holidays in a positive mood.
Natalia Khrapovitskaya.
