Overtaking is one of the most dangerous manoeuvres. Before starting it, a driver must ensure that the lane they intend to enter is clear and that their actions will not create a safety hazard for other road users.
When overtaking large vehicles, it should be taken into account that a slow-moving vehicle or an obstacle may be located in front of it.
Overtaking is prohibited: at marked and regulated intersections, pedestrian crossings and within 50 metres thereof in both directions; at railway crossings and within 100 metres thereof; on and under overpasses; at the crest of hills and in other sections of roads with limited visibility; in conditions of poor visibility.
Violation of overtaking rules or entering the oncoming traffic lane in cases where it is prohibited by the traffic regulations provides for administrative liability in the form of a fine of up to 10 base units, as well as deprivation of driving licence for a period of up to one year.
