A fire in Lepel district resulted in the death of an unemployed man.

At 00:59 on January 1st, rescuers received a report of a house fire in the village of Bolshoe Zhezhilino, Lepel district.

Upon arrival of the Ministry of Emergency Situations units at the scene, open burning of the house and collapse of its roof were observed. During the firefighting operations, the body of the homeowner, born in 1970, was discovered by Ministry of Emergency Situations employees under the collapsed structures. It was later found that the man lived alone and was unemployed. According to the preliminary version, the likely cause of the fire was carelessness while smoking by the deceased. An investigation is underway.
