The Vitebsk "Slavianski Bazaar" always fosters a unique atmosphere of interethnic friendship. This was stated by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, on July 12 at the grand opening ceremony of the XXVII International Festival of Arts "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk," as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"A unique atmosphere of interethnic friendship always prevails here, existing beyond state borders, beyond political and religious views and beliefs. The Vitebsk festival serves the noblest of purposes," emphasized Alexander Lukashenko.
The Head of State noted that year after year, "Slavianski Bazaar" fills the summer life of Vitebsk with musical rhythms, transforming the city's landscapes over the Dvina River into a large creative workshop where artists unveil the world of ancient and modern traditions of folk art to the festival's guests.
"The past and present are intertwined here, not only in culture but also in people's destinies, making this event relatable to everyone who understands the nature of spiritual kinship, knows their roots, and honours their national heritage," said the President.
According to Alexander Lukashenko, it is no coincidence that the festival's history began when the political life of a state that had united many peoples into one family for decades came to an end.
"And where politicians drew state borders, people found the simplest, time-tested way to maintain good, now neighbourly relations – through cultural ties. A tradition was born on the Vitebsk land that once again cemented the Slavic world with the melody of beloved songs, the sound of amazing voices, and the poetry and music of the soul of universally known authors and performers," recalled the Belarusian leader.
The preserved unity, trust, and mutual support of peoples have become a true foundation for the formation and development of young sovereign states, the Head of State pointed out. The international competition has not only brought kindred spirits together but has also attracted the attention of talented artists from other corners of the globe.
"Representatives of many countries and continents have, over the years, graced the music marathon and imbued it with profound meaning," the President noted. "Through art – towards peace and mutual understanding" – this life-affirming idea, embedded in the concept of the "Slavianski Bazaar" at the time of its foundation, remains highly relevant and contemporary today."
