is celebrated annually in our country on June 26, based on Decree of the President
of the Republic of Belarus No. 157 of March 26, 1998 "On State Holidays".
Through their activities,
the employees of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Belarus ensure the unity and supremacy of law, and exercise protection of human rights and freedoms, as well as the interests of society.
The Prosecutor's Office of Lepel District has been headed by the District Prosecutor, Junior Justice Counsellor Vitaly Mikhailovich Zhigimont, since October 8, 2018.
Under the attentive leadership
of an experienced professional, three prosecutor's office employees work: Deputy District Prosecutor Sergey Sinitsky, Senior Assistant District Prosecutor Evgenia Banevskaya, and a young specialist – trainee Assistant Prosecutor Tatyana Lukutina, as well as office manager L.V. Vayitekhovskaya, driver V.I. Tukhto, and courier-cleaner T.V. Prusskaya.

The main goal we strive for
is real assistance to people.
Since the most important function
of the prosecutor's office is human rights protection, the restoration of violated
citizens' rights is a significant aspect.
One of the most important
directions remains the consideration of citizens' appeals, as they help to identify issues requiring close attention.
Over the past period of 2020,
53 citizens' appeals were received, which is 8 more appeals than in the same period of 2019, indicating an increase in trust in our department.
The issue of protecting the rights of minors has always been and remains relevant, as children are the future of every state, and the tomorrow of society depends on how its younger generation is cared for.
Undoubtedly, in 2019-2020,
the Prosecutor's Office of Lepel District paid close attention to the issues of restoring the rights of minors.
Thus, in August 2019,
based on the results of an inspection, the Prosecutor of Lepel District initiated a criminal case regarding the commission of crimes,
provided for by Part 1 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code and Part 2 of Article 317-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. Namely, violation of traffic rules or vehicle operation by a person, which negligently caused less severe bodily harm, as well as driving a vehicle by a person in a state of intoxication, transferring control of a vehicle to such a person, or refusing to undergo testing (examination).
A previously convicted 38-year-old resident of Lepel, while driving a car in a state of alcoholic intoxication, was transporting a minor passenger, while not ensuring constant control over the road situation and safe driving of the vehicle he was operating, fell asleep at the wheel, drove off the roadway, and collided with a metal barrier fence.
As a result of the road traffic accident and the driver's negligent actions, the child traveling as a passenger sustained severe bodily injuries.
Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the court imposed the main sentence on the accused in the form of 3 months of arrest and a fine of 382 rubles 46 kopecks to the state revenue, and an additional punishment in the form of deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to the operation of all types of vehicles for a period of 5 years and a fine of 3825 rubles. The court ordered the accused to pay material compensation in the amount of 900 rubles in favor of the minor victim, and also, in accordance with Article 46-1, applied the special confiscation of the vehicle. In accordance with Article 107 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, coercive measures of safety and treatment were applied to a person suffering from chronic alcoholism.
The efforts of the Lepel District Prosecutor's Office are focused on combating crime and corruption.
In 2019, a total of 9 corruption offenses were identified.
Monitoring was also carried out on the enforcement of legislation on public procurement of goods (services) in rural executive committees, enterprises, and organizations of the district.
According to the results of 2019, there is a trend of an increase in the total number of crimes in the district. The growth is due to the intensification of the prosecutor's office's work on initiating criminal cases of a preventive nature within the prosecutor's powers: in 2019, 6 such criminal cases were initiated. The number of high-tech crimes is increasing (in Lepel district – from 14
up to 28), and the number of detected crimes in the sphere of illicit drug trafficking increased from 2 to 13 compared to 2018.
The priorities for 2020 remain the same – protecting the interests of the state, society, and citizens. Jointly with law enforcement and supervisory bodies, work to combat corruption, prevent offenses, and ensure the observance of personal and property rights of citizens will be continued.
