A Walk of Fame has been laid in Vitebsk today in honour of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, a BELTA correspondent reports.
The main site of the community work day in the regional centre, with the participation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko, and the leadership of the region and the city, was the Park of the 1000th Anniversary of Vitebsk, located behind the Sports Palace. Here, over 140 participants of the event installed curbs, laid paving tiles, and engaged in landscaping. A Walk of Fame was also laid in honour of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. Approximately 500 trees were planted along the pedestrian paths, and a commemorative sign was installed.
"It is pleasant to visit one's small homeland. Vitebsk region has always been and remains dear to me. My life is connected with this region. No matter who you become or where you are, you must remember where you came from," said Vladimir Andreichenko. "A community work day in Belarus is not a one-off event, but an established tradition that unites society."
The improvement of the park will continue. In the future, there will be cycling paths, small architectural forms, and over 1000 trees and shrubs will be planted in total. Video surveillance has been installed here for protection against vandals. "The park area is over 19 hectares, with the length of pedestrian paths alone exceeding 4 km. Specialists tried to take into account the paths that were laid by the residents of the neighbourhood during their design. This will be a wonderful place for recreation. I hope that we will complete the main work this year," noted the Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, Viktor Nikolaikin.
The Mayor added that, in time, children's attractions, a summer stage, and other entertainment facilities may appear here.
