Ivan Petrovich Maskalkov, Head of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations, held a meeting with the staff of the Lepel Children's Art School. During his address, Ivan Petrovich informed those present about the current fire situation in the region and the Lepel district. He then analysed the main causes of fires, reminding those present that the human factor plays a decisive role.
During the presentation, special attention was paid to the safe operation of stoves, gas and electrical equipment, and appliances. The basic rules of domestic fire safety were explained in detail, with emphasis on the importance of installing autonomous fire alarms, as they help to detect a fire in time and save not only property but also lives – and there are many examples of this.
In order to prevent accidents involving children, the rescuer urged attendees not to leave children unattended at home, not to allow them to play with matches and electrical appliances, to teach them safety rules and actions in case of fire, and, of course, the procedure for calling the fire and rescue service.
The presentation also touched upon the topical issue of fatalities on water bodies. The representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations addressed questions on how to behave if one finds oneself in the water under conditions of unstable ice cover on reservoirs and rivers, and also if one witnesses such an emergency.
At the end of the meeting, the art workers were introduced to the mobile application "Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus: Help is Nearby" and were given educational leaflets and brochures.
