Br1 billion will be allocated for the installation of traffic light facilities in Vitebsk in 2013, BELTA was informed by the traffic police department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. The funds will be allocated from the regional budget. Traffic light facilities, which will be installed at the expense of these funds, will be equipped at unregulated pedestrian crossings near the "Nika" shop on Frunze Avenue, the "Vulkan" shop on P. Brovka Street, and near the Ice Palace on Stroiteley Avenue. In case of full utilisation of the allocated resources, the traffic police have not ruled out the possibility of additional funding for equipping other problematic areas of the regional centre with this equipment. Vitebsk currently has 90 traffic light facilities installed at intersections and pedestrian crossings. Six of them, as well as 39 speed bumps, were installed last year. The installation of these facilities is an effective measure to reduce road accidents, the staff noted. In 2013, the traffic police department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee intends to begin implementing another significant project – equipping patrol cars with video recorders. It is planned to purchase at least 15 units of this equipment for each district of the region. -0-
