The Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora reminds that in accordance with the Rules, during the spawning ban, which will last in the Vitebsk region from April 10 to June 8 inclusive, amateur fishing is not completely prohibited, but significantly restricted:
The Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora reminds that in accordance with the Rules, during the spawning ban, which will last in the Vitebsk region from April 10 to June 8 inclusive, amateur fishing is not completely prohibited, but significantly restricted: it is allowed to fish with only one rod with one hook or one spinning rod equipped with one artificial lure, having no more than two single or double, or treble hooks during daylight hours from the shore. Entering the water is permitted if it is not directly related to fishing (unhooking a lure, bypassing obstacles). A landing net is allowed to be used to lift fish caught by the above-mentioned methods out of the water.
The use of any other fishing gear or methods during the ban period is qualified as a violation and entails a fine. For fish caught by prohibited methods or gear, the offender is obliged to compensate for the damage, which during the spawning ban period is calculated at triple rates. Causing damage amounting to 100 or more basic units is grounds for initiating a criminal case.
Throughout the entire ban period, citizens are prohibited from using small vessels – not only for fishing but also for other purposes (exceptions are specified in subclause 73.6 of the Rules). The Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate also reminds that, in parallel with the general ban, other bans on catching certain types of fish will also be in effect, namely, the ban on pike will last until April 23 inclusive. Then, from April 15 to May 30, a ban on catching will be in effect.
