"We must start immediately." Lukashenko instructed to build a new museum in "Khatyn" for the 80th anniversary of the tragedy

As reported to the head of state by the director of Khatyn, Artur Zelsky, a major overhaul with modernisation and restoration elements is planned for the memorial complex. The first phase of construction is scheduled for 2022. It includes cleaning the "Unconquered Man" sculpture, repairing the pedestal, the "Barn Roof" monument and the "Wreath of Memory" memorial, and restoring the granite slabs of the "Last Path" road.

The second phase of construction involves repairing the "Village Cemetery" and "Trees of Life" memorials, concrete burial fences, and urns with earth. Work is also scheduled for 2022.

The third phase includes repairing the lighting of the central path and the sound design of the memorial.

A new museum building is planned to be constructed at Khatyn. According to the concept, it will be a single-storey building with a total area of 1,000 sq. m, with a circular traffic flow through six exhibition halls.

"Let all work commence in May. By May 9, report to me the deadlines, plans, who will be working, expert assessments, designs, and estimates. I understand that we will be able to build it. But we will equip it carefully. We must do everything by this anniversary," emphasised Alexander Lukashenko. "Start building the museum immediately. The main thing is the exposition that will be there. So that people come and, before they set foot here, their hearts are already torn apart."

During his visit to the memorial complex, the President laid flowers at the monument "The Unconquered Man" and took part in the republican subbotnik. A park of historical memory will be created in "Khatyn", with 149 trees to be planted – one for each resident of the village who perished. Fruit trees and bushes will be planted near the symbolic log houses.
