This is not the only award for the ensemble, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary of creative activity. During this time, the choir has gained recognition, performed concerts abroad, and most importantly, has been loved by the Vitebsk public.
The choir, led by the talented conductor Mark Mirotin, began its activities in 1984. In the very year of its foundation, the chamber choir held its first concert at the Vitebsk television plant "Vityaz". For a quarter of a century, the ensemble has been led by Tatyana Zhukova, a graduate of the Belarusian State Conservatory, a wonderful musician and educator. Under her guidance, both people who are simply passionate about choral singing and professionals with over 30 years of stage experience perform.
— I became the leader in 1998. The first concerts were part of general programmes, and the ensemble prepared a major solo performance for the 200th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin in 1999, — said Tatyana Zhukova.
The People's Chamber Choir is an ensemble with an academic performance style. Its repertoire includes works of spiritual music, by Russian and foreign composers, contemporary authors, and arrangements of folk songs.
Over the years, the People's Chamber Choir has toured various cities in Russia, Belarus, Germany, Holland, and Latvia. The ensemble's fame has long extended beyond the regional centre. The choir has twice become a prize-winner of the International Festival of Orthodox Chants in Minsk, was a laureate of the V International Festival of Instrumental and Vocal Creativity "Glory to Glinka", and the International Festival-Competition "Art-Parade in Vitebsk". The choir now has ambitious plans.
— We will definitely take part in the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People. This is our tradition. We will also not miss the International Arts Festival "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk" and will perform at the street art festival "On Seven Winds", — said Tatyana Zhukova.
The People's Chamber Choir celebrated its anniversary with a concert "Festival of the Choir" at the Vitebsk Culture Centre. Works of various genres were performed from the stage. Vitebsk residents gladly spent the evening enjoying the performance of their beloved ensemble, which once again, through music, conveyed a simple truth: art should awaken a sense of beauty.
