Violations of overtaking rules and driving into the oncoming lane have caused fatal road traffic accidents in the Vitebsk region, as reported to BELTA by Olesya Seregina, head of the agitation and propaganda department of the traffic police of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. The peak of fatal accidents in the region over the last three days occurred last Friday. On that day, 3 road traffic accidents took place on the region's roads, resulting in four deaths and three injuries. For instance, in the Gorodok district, near the village of Kabishche, a resident of the village of Palminka, driving a "Zhiguli" car, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a "MAZ" truck. As a result, the car driver was hospitalized with injuries, and his fellow villager, who was travelling with him, died. The trip also ended in tragedy on that day for a 29-year-old resident of the village of Skryazhino, Gluboksky district. Having been deprived of his driving license in 2008, the man still got behind the wheel of a "Toyota". During the journey, he also drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a "Opel" car belonging to a resident of Novopolotsk born in 1979. The latter and a pensioner travelling with him died. The wife of the "Opel" driver and the driver of the second foreign car were taken to the hospital with injuries. "The State Automobile Inspectorate draws attention to the fact that most accidents recently are caused not by difficult weather conditions, which undoubtedly also affect the road situation, but by gross violations of overtaking rules and driving into the oncoming lane," emphasized Olesya Seregina, urging all drivers to choose the correct speed, observe maneuvering rules, and not overestimate their abilities on the road, as this is directly related to their own safety and the safety of their loved ones. The second category of road users, pedestrians, should also be more cautious. "In particular, a resident of Orsha born in 1979 paid with his life for crossing the road in the wrong place on the evening of December 14, having been hit by a 'Volkswagen' near the village of Khlusovo, Orsha district," Olesya Seregina cited as an example. -0-
