29 April, Grodno /BelTA/. The time has come for the social responsibility of the media. This was stated today by Grigory Kisel, Chairman of the Board of CJSC "Second National Television Channel", at a meeting of heads of republican media in Grodno, BelTA correspondent reports.
Grigory Kisel is convinced that the role of the media in modern Belarus should change, and in this, in his opinion, "all of us, the entire society are interested". After all, some journalists are still captive to old dogmas and stereotypes.
largely thanks to the mass media, concepts such as "social responsibility of the political elite" and "social responsibility of business" have become widespread in society. "However, we (media representatives. - BelTA note) still do not want to notice the social responsibility of the media. The media system positions itself as some kind of external observer, who is allowed to criticize, make judgments, and draw conclusions," said the head of the TV channel.
He stressed that the task of modern media is "not to tell how much fertilizer has been applied per hectare of arable land, but to form a new consciousness, a national consciousness". "Let's talk less about genres. The most important thing is that each of us contributes a part of our work to the formation of new sovereign values," said Grigory Kisel, addressing the media managers gathered. He metaphorically noted that just as a horse can be led to water by force, but cannot be forced to drink, so no one will force journalists to be socially responsible until they themselves realize that they are not external observers, but participants in the process.-0-
