3 January, Minsk /BELTA correspondent/. The National Bank of Belarus narrowed the fluctuation corridor for the basket of foreign currencies to +/-8% in 2011, down from +/-10% in 2010. This was reported to BELTA by the Information Department of the National Bank of Belarus. In 2011, the National Bank's policy aimed at ensuring the stability of the Belarusian ruble will be continued. In accordance with the Main Directions of Monetary Policy of the Republic of Belarus for 2011, approved by Decree No. 597 of 19 November 2010, the exchange rate regime of the Belarusian ruble pegged to the value of the basket of foreign currencies will be maintained. Due to the improved economic situation and reduced external risks in 2011, the boundaries of the fluctuation corridor for the basket of foreign currencies, which includes the Russian ruble, the US dollar, and the euro with equal shares, are narrowed to +/-8% relative to the basket value established at the beginning of 2011 (Br1054.68). This means that the range of permissible fluctuations of the Belarusian ruble against the currency basket will be from Br970.03 to Br1138.73. At the same time, to ensure the stable exchange rate of the national currency within this corridor, the National Bank will employ all necessary monetary policy measures. -0-
