The scheme is a system of natural and territorial complexes with special regimes of protection and use. It ensures the maintenance of ecological balance, the preservation of biological and landscape diversity, and the sustainable development of territories.
A number of measures are envisaged for the formation and functioning of the elements of the national ecological network. For example, habitats of wild animals and wild-growing plants belonging to species included in the Red Book of Belarus will be placed under protection. It is planned to construct crossings for wild animals and install special road signs "Wild Animals" during the design and construction (reconstruction) of road sections to prevent the death of animals in places of their mass migration.
In addition, regulations for the operation of hydraulic structures for fish passage at existing and planned hydroelectric power plant dams will be determined, 13 republican significance заказники (nature reserves) will be transformed (clarification of boundaries, establishment of protection and use regimes), and 10 local significance заказники (nature reserves) will be declared and 5 transformed.
The decree is adopted for the purpose of preserving natural ecological systems, biological and landscape diversity of territories, as well as ensuring the continuity of habitats for wildlife.
