The national selection for the song contests of the international arts festival "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk" will be held in Orsha for the first time. This was announced at a press conference dedicated to the forum by Petr Podgursky, Head of the Culture Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.

"The Ministry of Culture has come up with the initiative to hold the national qualifying round not in Minsk, as usual, but in Orsha. The preliminary date for its holding has been set for March 16," said Petr Podgursky.

According to Gleb Lapitsky, General Director of the Vitebsk Culture Centre and the festival, ten finalists who have passed the preliminary selections for the children's and adult music contests will compete in Orsha for the right to represent Belarus at the forum. Participants will perform two songs each. "A tremendous amount of work is being done with the children, because the children's contest is the highlight of the 'Slavianski Bazaar', it is a whole celebration that is gaining popularity every year," he added.

This year, the festival will be held from July 8 to July 17. The grand opening ceremony and gala concert of the forum will take place in the Summer Amphitheatre on July 11, and the closing ceremony on July 15. Additional events are planned for July 8-10 and July 16-17. The main events of the festival will be the XXVIII International Pop Song Performers Contest "Vitebsk-2019" and the XVII International Children's Music Contest "Vitebsk-2019".
