Rains have halted the progress of the harvesting campaign in the Vitebsk region, as reported by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee.

As of the morning of September 4, the region has threshed 1 million 11 thousand tons of grain with an average yield of 31.3 centners per hectare. 322.7 thousand hectares have been harvested, or 91% of the plan. The area harvested by machine operators per day was 2.3 thousand hectares, which is only 0.7% of the total area.

"Adverse weather conditions have significantly slowed down the harvesting process since August 17. Before this date, the region harvested about 11 thousand hectares per day, or 3-4% of the area. Selective harvesting of grain is currently underway. Farmers are using every opportunity to gather the harvest from the fields," the committee emphasized.

The main efforts of the rural workers are concentrated on sowing winter crops. 12.6 thousand hectares, or 5% of the area, have already been sown for next year's harvest.

Also, the corn harvesting has begun in the region. Farms in all districts, except for Beshenkovichsky, Dubrovensky, Lepelsky, Polotsky, Ushachsky, and Sharkovshchinsky, have started this type of work. 987 hectares have been harvested. The average yield is 211 centners per hectare.
