The traditional winter regional sports event for the active members of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union has recently taken place. Representatives from Lepel did not leave without prizes. The first secretary of the RPK BRSM, Tatyana Shcherbach, tells us how the competition unfolded.

— Ten representatives of the working youth from the I. M. Yerashov Gymnasium, the Agrarian-Technical College, the SDYUSSHOR sports school, and the central district hospital participated on behalf of the district. The sports event was held at the "Magistral" children's recreation camp near the village of Malye Lyottsy. We were accommodated in a cozy three-story building which housed a canteen and a disco hall in one space. This was a significant advantage, as at previous gatherings, we had to walk in the cold because the canteen was located separately. According to tradition, teams were formed by drawing lots. This was done to encourage people from different districts to meet each other, exchange experiences, and perform together amicably in fun, light-hearted contests. About 150 people were divided into eight teams.

— Please tell us about the contests…

— For example, "bandy": participants had to guide a tennis ball with a hockey stick along a track. In the "Lord of the Mountain" contest, the strongest participant had to pull team members up the "mountain" on improvised sledges and then descend to pick up the next person. Everyone enjoyed "Fitball" – football played with a large rubber ball. The objective of the game is to score the ball into the opponent's goal within three minutes. There was also a relay race with ribbons and balls, and so on. In the evening, a celebratory dinner and a disco awaited everyone.

— Who from Lepel won prizes?

— First place within their respective teams was secured by Pavel Zanko, Director of the SDYUSSHOR; Konstantin Shcherbach, Physical Education Teacher at the I. M. Yerashov Gymnasium; and Olga Volkova, Accountant at the Central District Hospital. I became a silver medalist. Bronze medals went to Dina Ignatovich, a teacher at the Agrarian-Technical College, and Marina Timofeyeva, Chief Accountant of the RPK BRSM. The winter sports event is, above all, an opportunity to meet old friends.
