Participants began to gather at the district House of Culture long before the start of the solemn meeting dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the district organization of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans. In the foyer of the cultural institution, people of a very respected, mature age from our town and district were already warmly greeting each other, chatting leisurely about life, and exchanging local news.
Currently, the district veterans' organization unites over nine thousand labor veterans, including 95 participants of the Great Patriotic War, 186 internationalist soldiers, and 460 veterans of the Armed Forces and internal affairs bodies.
Heads of enterprises and institutions, and chairpersons of rural executive committees are paying due attention to the activities of primary veteran organizations, of which there are currently 37. Moreover, the positive professional and life experience of veterans remains in high demand, as 1500 people of retirement age continue to work and be employed in material production and social services.
This year, for example, at the milk and canned goods plant, food parcels were presented to production veterans on the occasion of the Day of the Elderly. For the 60th anniversary of this enterprise, they were awarded certificates, jubilee badges, souvenirs, books, and subscriptions to periodicals.
Positive experience is also present at the "Zhemchuzhina" Children's Rehabilitation and Health Center, DRBU-202, Lepelraygaz, CB "Belarusbank", Secondary School No. 3, and other organizations and institutions.
The chairpersons of the primary veteran organizations, Vasily Sharstuk, Zygmund Zelyanevsky, Vasily Avtukh, Sofia Skrabnevskaya, Zinaida Pugach, Nadezhda Bardilovskaya, and others, are working fruitfully.
The chairpersons of the district organizations "Belarusian Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan" – Sergey Krivel, and "Belarusian Union of Officers" – Vitaly Franchuk, are actively engaged in public activities.
The People's Club "Veteran" of the district House of Culture plays a significant role in heroic-patriotic and ideological-moral education.
14 veterans have been elected as deputies of rural councils of deputies, and one is a member of a rural executive committee. Of the 146 village elders in the district, 95 are people of retirement age.
Every year, a comprehensive medical examination of participants of the Great Patriotic War is conducted, and they are provided with medicines at preferential rates. Twice a year, the "Lade" boarding house invites veterans of the Great Patriotic War for a week-long rest.
