On September 3, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A traffic safety week is starting in the Vitebsk region, Ivan Shchurok, head of the education department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, told a BELTA correspondent.
The joint event of the regional education department and the traffic police department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee is timed to coincide with the start of the academic year. The issue of prevention and warning of child road traffic injuries will be discussed these days in schools at parent-teacher meetings with the participation of traffic police officers. Traffic police officers and teachers will remind parents of the need to teach their child to travel to and from school along a safe route, to mark it with a retroreflector, and other important personal safety rules on the roads.
Back in August, a monitoring of educational institutions was carried out in the regional center for the availability of high-visibility vests and road signal discs, which are necessary for organizing the work of stop-men who, together with traffic police officers, will be on duty at pedestrian crossings and help schoolchildren cross the road. The availability of developed schemes for safe student travel to schools was also checked.
Drivers should exercise particular caution, Ivan Shchurok reminded. The closest attention should be paid to the traffic situation near school grounds, as well as during the times when students are going to classes and returning home after studies. -0-
