"This year, the event, organised under the auspices of the National Bank within the framework of the global initiative Global Money Week, will be held under the slogan 'Learn. Save. Earn'. The main goal of GMW-2017 is to introduce young people to the rules of financial behaviour, teach them to make sound financial decisions, explain the rules of saving, and expand young people's knowledge of income generation opportunities," the National Bank emphasised.
The global coordinator of the project is the Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI).
In Belarus, ministries and departments, banks, financial organisations, educational institutions, and specialised associations of financial market participants will traditionally take part in the organisation and conduct of the Financial Literacy Week.
"As in the rest of the world, GMW-2017 in Belarus will start on March 27 with the symbolic opening of trading by children ringing the bell at the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange OJSC. The programme of the Belarusian Financial Literacy Week includes an online conference between Belarusian schoolchildren and their peers from Romania and Macedonia, who will share their experience of managing personal finances and talk about savings tools for schoolchildren, the presentation of a new children's fairy tale book on financial literacy, financial literacy lessons on the importance of savings in schools across the country, and a number of other events," the Information and Public Relations Department reported.
In addition, children and youth in Belarus will be able to participate in international competitions organised by the Child and Youth Finance International.
CYFI has been operating since 2012 as an international non-profit organisation to help address the financial challenges of children and youth worldwide. The National Bank of Belarus established a partnership with CYFI in 2013. Last year, CYFI presented the National Bank with a special award for significant achievements in conducting the Financial Literacy Week for Children and Youth.
In 2016, the national Financial Literacy Weeks were held in 132 countries, with over 7 million children and teenagers participating.
