30 January, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. A sobriety week has commenced in the Postavy district, as reported to BELTA correspondent by the Head of the Ideological Work Department of the Postavy District Executive Committee, Galina Chaplinskaya. Initiated by the Postavy District Executive Committee and the Roman Catholic religious organizations operating within the district, 15 specialists in working with the alcohol-dependent population have arrived in the district from Grodno, Slonim, and Minsk. Throughout the week, they will conduct approximately 40 meetings in workforces, educational institutions, and at residents' homes with socially dangerous families and individuals prone to alcohol abuse. Individual consultations are also planned for people who have expressed a desire to quit their harmful habit. In the evenings, services for a healthy lifestyle and abstention from alcohol consumption will be held in churches. The campaign started today with a round table discussion, attended by specialists from district services, representatives of district public organizations, and the visiting specialists. Issues of alcoholism prevention and the organisation of anti-alcohol propaganda were discussed. The campaign will conclude on 5 February with a review of the meetings' outcomes, and further measures for holding sobriety days and organising anti-alcohol propaganda will be outlined. According to Galina Chaplinskaya, no additional restrictive measures regarding the sale of alcohol are planned to be introduced in the district during the week. "We continue to enforce the district executive committee's order prohibiting the sale of alcohol on payday and the two subsequent days," she added. -0-
