Commenting on the protest actions in Belarus, Armen Gasparyan expressed confidence that they are short-lived. "The issue is not even the lack of a clearly defined political component around which something could be discussed. The most crucial element is missing – that very unity, which the coordination council has been incessantly talking about," he explained.
According to him, protesters hold diverse views: some, for instance, are in favour of the Union State, while others are against it. "Based on what I heard from charming Minsk women, I understood that many were simply demonstratively confused about why they came out and what they actually want. This happens," the historian noted.
At the same time, he stated that participation in protest actions has, to a large extent, even become fashionable. "You post a selfie, ten stories, and someone likes it, perhaps you'll be shown on television. This is a technology in itself," added the Russian writer. "This is not a revolution, not politics, it's a farce. Moreover, the role assigned to women is the most shameful thing that can be in this farce. They are pawns in someone else's game."
