In Riga, Vladimir Makei will hold negotiations with his counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs.

As previously reported, the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, was scheduled to visit Latvia in April. However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the visit was postponed to a later date.

In March, at the initiative of the Latvian side, a telephone conversation took place between Alexander Lukashenko and the President of Latvia, Egils Levits. The heads of state discussed the main aspects of bilateral cooperation, primarily trade and economic. The neighboring countries are primarily interested in issues of cargo transportation, energy transit, and industrial cooperation.

At the end of June, Alexander Lukashenko congratulated Egils Levits on his 65th birthday. The President noted that he counts on the continuation of joint work to strengthen good-neighborly relations, which should be facilitated by planned high-level contacts. "I hope that soon we will be able to meet in hospitable Riga to discuss ways to deepen cooperation between Belarus and Latvia," emphasized the head of the Belarusian state.
