The international festival of solo performances "Umoўna" will be held from April 5-7 in Polotsk, as reported to BelTA correspondent by the culture department of the Polotsk District Executive Committee.

The new cultural event will take place within the framework of the project "Forum of Art Figures in the Field of Theatre on the Example of a Solo Performance as a Unique Genre of Theatre Art". The participants will include theatres from Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

The name "Umoўna" for the first theatre festival in Polotsk was not chosen by chance. "It is based on the word 'mono' (from ancient Greek 'one'). One professional actor demonstrates the art of conveying emotions, changing moods, and shows the evolution of the method of creating a character's image through their own example. On the other hand, the letter 'ў' is a unique graphic representation of the linguistic features of the Belarusian people and, to a certain extent, a symbol of their uniqueness. And, of course, when talking about theatre, we imply a certain convention of what is happening on stage, where much depends on the director, the main idea, and the audience's perception," specialists noted.

The forum is designed to contribute to the improvement of theatrical skills of cultural figures in the Vitebsk region and to introduce audiences to modern European trends in stage art.

The festival is organised by the Polotsk District Executive Committee, the City Palace of Culture, and the folk theatre of historical costume "Polatski zviaz".
