This week, agricultural producers across the entire region have joined the efforts to harvest the second cut of grasses. A total of 100,000 hectares are to be harvested during July-August. During the first and partially the second stages of fodder grass harvesting, rural workers mowed 255,000 hectares of grass, producing 569.5 thousand tonnes of fodder units, or 14.1 centners per conventional head of cattle. This figure exceeds last year's level by 2.7 centners of fodder units.
Hay has been harvested in the amount of 93.2 thousand tonnes (70% of the target), silage - 1.8 million tonnes (79%), including 83 thousand tonnes packaged in polymer wrap (23 thousand tonnes more than last year on the same date), and haylage - 63.5 thousand tonnes (3% of the target; the main portion will be harvested during the corn harvest period).
Currently, the harvesting of winter rapeseed is actively continuing in the region's farms. The crop has been harvested from 26.6 thousand hectares, or 57% of the sown areas. The yield is 39 thousand tonnes with a productivity of 14.7 centners per hectare (slightly higher than last year's level).
Preparations are also underway for the grain and pulse harvest, which agricultural producers of the Vitebsk region plan to commence in earnest in the last days of July - early August. Selective harvesting is already in progress in Chashniki, Vitebsk, Beshenkovichi, Braslav, Orsha, Shumilino, Tolochin, and Sharkovshchina districts. The first 800 hectares have been mowed. In total, across the region, these crops (including corn, millet, and buckwheat) will cover 391.6 thousand hectares to be harvested.
