A new oil field has been discovered in Belarus, BELTA was informed by the press service of RUP "Production Association "Belorusneft".
The new field, located within the intermediate block of the regional Rechitsa-Vishansk fault of the Pripyat Trough, has been named Ugolskoye.
During the exploration drilling of the Ugolskoye sub-salt structure, exploration well No. 1-Ugolskoye, with a depth of 5,218 m, yielded an inflow of oil with gas at a flow rate of about 39.5 tonnes per day when developing the Semiluksky horizon.
The oil of the Ugolskoye field is classified as hard-to-recover reserves. They are located at a great depth and in a low-permeability reservoir. Anomalously high formation pressure will be a positive factor for development.
The geological reserves of the new field are estimated at approximately 1.7 million tonnes of oil. A more precise estimate can be made after drilling exploration well No. 2-Ugolskoye in 2017.
Production Association "Belorusneft" was established in 1966. The enterprise conducts exploration, prospecting and development of oil fields, drilling of wells, extraction of oil and associated petroleum gas in Belarus, and operates in the oil sector of other countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Ecuador.
