8 November, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. A resident of Novopolotsk tested the readiness of his hometown's law enforcement agencies for terrorist attacks, BELTA was informed by the press group of the KGB Department for the Vitebsk Region. "On 3 November, between 12:56 and 13:06, the duty unit of the Novopolotsk City Department of Internal Affairs received reports about the discovery of a suspicious package with possible explosive content near a shop on Kalinin Street and at the entrance to a residential building on Molodezhnaya Street. Upon arrival at the specified locations, law enforcement units and special services immediately took comprehensive measures to ensure public safety and examine the package. No explosives were found, however, the overtly provocative nature of the incident is evident," the press group reported. They further explained that the man in question left the package in one location and then moved it to another. Operational-search activities conducted by the KGB Department for the Vitebsk Region and the Internal Affairs Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee established and reliably confirmed that a repeatedly convicted 38-year-old resident of Novopolotsk, a worker at a local construction company, was directly involved in both reports. The Novopolotsk City Department of the Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against him under Part 1 of Article 340 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (knowingly false report of danger), which provides for up to five years of imprisonment. The man has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility.-0-
