February 12, Novopolotsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. Novopolotsk ophthalmologists are mastering high-tech methods of surgical treatment for cataracts and glaucoma, Svetlana Sharafanovich, head of the inter-district ophthalmology department of the Novopolotsk Central City Hospital, told a BELTA correspondent.
Modern equipment has helped specialists reach a qualitatively new level of medical care. The latest generation operating ophthalmic microscope and phacoemulsifier were delivered to the hospital at the end of last year. The equipment was purchased with sponsorship from Novopolotsk enterprises. "The microscope alone costs 80,000 euros," said Svetlana Sharafanovich. "Until recently, equipment of this level could only be found in regional clinics. In terms of some characteristics, our microscope even surpasses those used by medical professionals in the capital," said the head of the inter-district department. The main advantage of the operating complex is that modern optics allow for a more detailed examination of the eye tissues during surgery.
The department provides emergency and planned care to adults and children from Novopolotsk, Polotsk, and 10 nearby districts.
Svetlana Sharafanovich emphasized that the new apparatus is very convenient to operate. It is equipped with an additional tube for the assistant, who can observe the course of the operation and assist the surgeon. Individual automatic programming of parameters for the operating surgeon and assistant is provided, as everyone has their own vision and work speed. There are three types of control: manual, using a foot pedal, and a touchscreen.
The head of the department stressed that modern equipment and high-tech methods have improved the quality of medical services, increased their volume, and, consequently, reduced the burden on regional healthcare institutions. "We will continue to develop in this direction, and in the future, we plan to open an eye microsurgery department. In addition, the ophthalmology department is scheduled to move to renovated premises in early March," she said.
Based on the results of last year's work, Svetlana Sharafanovich was awarded the title "Person of the Year of Vitebsk Region." -0-
