The precinct commission has prepared an unusual souvenir calendar for first-time voting young men and women, the district electoral commission No. 28 told a BELTA correspondent. Like a traditional calendar, the souvenir is designed for a year. However, the count of days in it begins not on January 1, but on September 23, 2012, and ends on September 23, 2013. Thus, young people begin to count their new status – the status of a full-fledged citizen of their country, who has the right to vote and has exercised it. In Novopolotsk, the city executive committee has prepared festive postcards with good wishes for first-time voters. In them, the city authorities express confidence that young Novopolotsk residents will worthily bear the title of citizen of Belarus and resident of the labor oil city. Commemorative souvenirs for voters participating in elections for the first time have been prepared at almost all polling stations in the Vitebsk region. Today, 898 polling stations, including 48 in stationary medical institutions and sanatoriums, and 2 in military units, are waiting for voters. About 900,000 people are included in the voter lists. 42 candidates are vying for 14 deputy seats in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly in the region, 22 of whom are party members. All candidates were granted equal rights based on electoral legislation, and all of them were given the opportunity to speak for free on television and radio air with their election programs. The "Vitebsk" TV and radio company broadcasted the performances of 37 candidates from August 28 to September 3, and 35 candidates spoke on regional radio. For the first time in the current election campaign, candidates were able to hold public discussions. In the region, 22 people participated in them, speaking in eight television and six radio debates. Another innovation of this campaign was the opening of election funds by candidates. 12 candidates running in the electoral districts of the Vitebsk region opened special election accounts in the branches of OJSC Savings Bank "Belarusbank". The collected funds were used by candidates to produce additional printed materials and purchase advertising space in local newspapers for the publication of their election materials.
