A system of 16 video surveillance cameras will be installed in the tunnels and the adjacent territory of the underground pedestrian crossing connecting the "Marko-City" shopping and entertainment complex and the Summer Amphitheatre in Vitebsk, Mikhail Meshko, Director of the Vitebsk City Capital Construction Unitary Enterprise, told journalists, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
The new underground crossing connects the areas of the Summer Amphitheatre and the Western Dvina embankment, the development of which is envisaged by the Vitebsk development plan. The underground crossing is already open to pedestrians, but its outfitting is ongoing. "We are equipping two tunnels and the adjacent territory with a video surveillance system. 16 video cameras will be installed here: rotating cameras on Lenina Street and 12 cameras in two underground passages. This will help ensure people's safety," said the enterprise director.
The "Vitebsk City Capital Construction" enterprise acted as the client for the construction of the underground crossing near the Summer Amphitheatre, with "Zhilstroy" Open Joint Stock Company as the general contractor. One of the Russian organizations, which carried out the tunneling, took a direct part in the construction of the facility. "Work began in 2011. The project is unique in that we did not create any inconvenience to transport or pedestrians during the construction of this facility. Traffic was not stopped; the work was carried out by tunneling. The length of the two underground passages is about 48 m," said Mikhail Meshko.
He also informed that special information signs will appear on Frunze Avenue, Lenina Street, and Gogol Street within the next one and a half to two weeks. "The information will indicate exits to the even and odd sides of Lenina Street, and public transport stops. An accessible route for people with disabilities will be additionally marked," informed Mikhail Meshko. People in wheelchairs will move from the even to the odd side of Lenina Street via the above-ground pedestrian crossing operating at Svobody Square.-0-
