On October 24, Minsk / Tatyana Ivanyuk - BELTA /. A new workshop for the maintenance and current repair of passenger diesel locomotives at the locomotive depot in Orsha (Vitebsk region) is planned to be commissioned by the end of the current year, the Minsk branch of Belarusian Railway informed BELTA correspondent. "The workshop is being equipped with the necessary lifting equipment and diagnostic tools, which will allow detecting locomotive defects at the stage of their occurrence," the specialists noted. The construction of the workshop is being carried out in accordance with the project for the development of production capacities of the locomotive depot, with the aim of creating a major base for the factory repair of passenger diesel locomotives of several series. The project implementation began in 2000. In the coming years, the reconstruction of the facility involves the construction of a new warehouse for lubricants and fueling facilities. This is important due to the fact that the current location of the premises does not comply with the rules for the safe operation of oil product warehouses. At the same time, it is planned to restore the depot's treatment facilities by introducing equipment that allows for the purification of wastewater from oil products to the maximum permissible concentration in discharged effluents. The Orsha locomotive depot, founded in 1871, is one of the oldest on Belarusian Railway. The need for depot modernization arose, among other things, due to the need to reduce the costs of repairing diesel locomotives, which was carried out in Russia. Thus, the repair work for one unit of equipment required about $640 thousand. Previously, it was not possible to perform this work in-house due to limited space and outdated equipment. Currently, the depot's fleet includes diesel locomotives of several series. Among them, there are 39 units of the TEP70 series, which form the basis of the depot. More modern TEP70 BS diesel locomotives are assigned to the Minsk locomotive depot. With the help of locomotives of these series, the main volume of passenger transportation is carried out on non-electrified sections of Belarusian Railway. -0-
