Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov described the dialogue between the Presidents of Belarus and Russia, Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, as highly trusting.

"This dialogue is highly trusting and at the same time extremely substantive. Because both of them understand the details of bilateral relations," Dmitry Peskov said on the air of the program "Moscow. Kremlin. He noted that Putin and Lukashenko "have a long history of dialogue." Peskov recalled that the presidents' meetings are always preceded by negotiations between the delegations of the two countries. "Therefore, the details (of the meeting between Putin and Lukashenko in Moscow. - BELTA's note) were all prepared and all worked out so that the presidents could discuss them at the highest level," he explained.

Dmitry Peskov added that the level of trust and respect between Russia and Belarus guarantees absolute non-interference in each other's affairs. "We have a Union State, we are the closest allies, and the level of mutual trust and mutual respect on the one hand guarantees absolute non-interference in each other's internal affairs, which has been repeatedly demonstrated by President Putin," he said.

On the other hand, the Kremlin representative emphasized, this allows the presidents to frankly exchange views on the most pressing issues. "Of course, the events of recent weeks in Belarus could not have been left unaddressed. In addition, we know about President Lukashenko's initiative to carry out constitutional reform, to launch the relevant process, and this topic was also touched upon, and this initiative was also supported by President Putin," Dmitry Peskov recalled following the talks between the leaders of the two countries.

On September 14, negotiations between Putin and Lukashenko were held in Sochi, discussing key issues of bilateral relations. The negotiations were mainly held tête-à-tête and lasted about four hours. Negotiations were held.

At the negotiations in Sochi, Putin stated that the trade turnover between the Russian Federation and Belarus had decreased by more than 21% due to the unfavorable global economic situation associated with the coronavirus pandemic. The Russian leader proposed to make additional efforts to overcome this trend.
