The commission's decision is based on positive conclusions from supervisory authorities and the BelNPP working commission, as well as on the license issued by the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the industrial operation of the first power unit.
Specialized experts and scientists were widely involved in the work of the acceptance committee, which included representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Emergency Situations, Gosstandart, Ministry of Architecture and Construction, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Grodno Regional Executive Committee, and the state production association "Belenergo", as well as representatives of the Russian companies "ASE", "Atomstroyexport", and "AtomtechEnergo".
"The BelNPP project is important for the country's economy, as well as in terms of cooperation within the Union State. Not only economic results are of great importance, but also the competencies we gain. I would like to express my immense gratitude to our Russian partners," said Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Nazarov. According to him, the commissioning of the second power unit of BelNPP is expected next year.
Alexander Lokshin, First Deputy General Director for Nuclear Energy of Rosatom, noted the significance of active interaction with the Belarusian side for the state corporation. "The second power unit is always easier than the first, as there is already a cohesive team, experience, and skills. We have no doubt that in a year there will be a ceremony for the acceptance of the second power unit," he emphasized.
The industrial operation stage of the first BelNPP power unit was preceded by a large volume of work, including checking the readiness of technological systems and equipment for mastering thermal and electrical capacity, conducting necessary tests, and training personnel.
Currently, the unit is operating at the nominal power level of the reactor plant. Since its connection to the unified energy system, almost 3 billion kWh of electricity has been generated.
The Russian-designed Generation 3+ "AES-2006" project was chosen for the construction of the Belarusian NPP. It complies with international requirements and IAEA recommendations and features enhanced safety characteristics. 36 construction organizations participated in the construction of the Belarusian NPP. The number of construction workers at the peak of the NPP construction reached 8.5 thousand people.
"Over the years of implementing the national nuclear energy program, Belarus has made significant strides in establishing a nuclear and radiation safety system and its key components, including the creation of a relevant regulatory framework, the establishment and operation of a protection and response system, personnel training, and systematic interaction with leading international organizations. The large-scale Belarusian NPP project serves as a locomotive for the development of many economic sectors, promotes the widespread adoption of modern technologies in production, ensures the creation of new jobs, and also creates additional opportunities to improve the living comfort of the population," the Ministry of Energy's press service noted.
