The student team "Eureka" of Polotsk State University was recognized as the best at the closing of the work semester in Ostrovets.

The best in the country! The student construction squad "Evrika" of Polotsk State University returned from the Grodno region with such a result.

Following the results of the work at the sites of the All-Belarusian Youth Construction Project in Ostrovets, the student squad, named after the Hero of the Soviet Union and honorary citizen of Novopolotsk, Viktor Eronko, took the lead for the sixth time in a row.

Only our compatriots spent the third working semester of 2020 at the "Gorod Molodosti" (City of Youth) All-Belarusian Youth Construction Project. The COVID-19 pandemic reduced the number of student squads. This time, Russian students did not come to Ostrovets, near which the country's first nuclear power plant is being built.

Novopolotsk was represented at the project by three student squads from Polotsk State University. "Evrika", "Zodchiye" (Architects), and "Ritm" (Rhythm) were formed mainly from students of the Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering faculties. This summer, they participated in the construction of a youth center, a multi-story building, and a central district clinical hospital, and were involved in landscaping streets in Ostrovets and beyond.

For the first time since the project's inception, female students joined the university's construction squads. They performed painting work, were responsible for the cultural and leisure program, and covered events on social media. And there were many events during the two months spent at the construction site. Participation in the student squad movement is not only about completing production tasks. Young people compete in creative, intellectual, and sports competitions. Leaders are determined based on the results of all indicators.

At the closing ceremony of the working semester in Ostrovets, "Evrika" was once again recognised as the best student squad. For the second year in a row, it has been led by Dmitry Shcherbenok, a fifth-year student of the Civil Engineering faculty. Another personal award was added to the five-year student's collection of achievements. At the All-Belarusian Youth Construction Project, Dmitry confirmed his status as the best commander. His fellow student, Victoria Sysoy, became the best commissar of the squad, and Vladislav Gordynets, a fourth-year student of the Civil Engineering faculty, was recognised as the best fighter of the "Evrika" squad.

– The main reward is the experience we gained, – says Dmitry Shcherbenok. – To learn what construction is like from the inside, not from textbooks and presentations, is invaluable. Plus, it’s good earnings, an opportunity to become more independent, gain professional skills, and also immerse yourself in an atmosphere of friendship, creativity, and active recreation.

The student team movement is one of the priority areas of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM). It continues to develop, despite the difficulties caused by the epidemic situation. As Alina Avtonenko, secretary of the primary organisation of the BRSM at Polotsk State University, explained, this year for the first time, a production team "Euphoria" was formed at PSU. It included 17 students from different faculties and specialities who took part in the launch of the International Production Labour Project "Atlant-2020".

In total, this summer, 198 students from PSU and students from Novopolotsk State Polytechnic College were employed through the Novopolotsk City Organisation of the BRSM. Eight pedagogical teams from the university worked in children's health resorts in Belarus, two student teams worked on landscaping projects in Novopolotsk, and another one worked in Soligorsk. The successes of the youth in the student team movement are a wonderful gift for the 18th anniversary of the Novopolotsk City Organisation of the BRSM, which celebrated its founding day on September 6.
