Belarusian historians are working on a consistent concept of the historical past of the Belarusian state with the correct conceptual framework. This was stated by Igor Marzalyuk, Chairman of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on Education, Culture and Science, on the air of the "Belarus 1" TV channel, according to BELTA.
"The most important function of historical memory is to preserve the fundamental values that make us a people, a nation, a state," noted Igor Marzalyuk. "My colleagues and I, the team of authors, are currently building a concept for the history of Belarusian statehood. It will be truthfully and consistently reflected in the first unique textbook for higher education."
The parliamentarian emphasized that this concept should not include figures that divide the nation. "For example, a person who dreamed of destroying some ethnic group cannot be considered a national hero of the country," Igor Marzalyuk added.
In his opinion, the discussed draft Concept of Information Security is the first important step in strengthening historical memory, which preserves the traditional values accumulated by entire generations of our ancestors. However, in the context of information wars, it is also necessary to offer society a convincing documented version of its past, which will make it clear that any attempts to blacken the white and whiten the black, to call us an artificial state invented by someone, are blatant lies that are, moreover, punishable. "All terrible ethnic cleansings began with the multiplication of hatred. The task of the Belarusian state and this concept is to preserve values, increase love, and suppress any attempts and inclinations to multiply hatred," concluded Igor Marzalyuk.
