In Vitebsk, it is planned to employ approximately 3.8 thousand people in 2019 in new jobs and existing vacancies, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Marina Budkevich, Deputy Head of the Department of Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the City Executive Committee.
"Currently, the labour market in the city is characterised by a decrease in the number of officially registered unemployed and an increase in vacancies from employers. If at the beginning of 2016, six unemployed people applied for one vacancy, then as of January 1 this year, there are three vacancies per person. The unemployment rate was 0.4%," Marina Budkevich said. "In 2019, we plan to employ about 3.8 thousand people in new jobs and existing vacancies. We also expect to achieve a proportion of employed people of 67% of all those in need registered with the employment service."
The specialist noted that as of March 1, there were almost 700 unemployed registered with the city employment service, with 2,414 vacancies. About 80% of the offers are for blue-collar jobs. Among the employers in the city, construction professions, seamstresses, nurses, doctors, various types of fitters, and drivers (with the start of the agricultural season, tractor drivers are particularly in demand) remain in demand, as well as electric gas welders.
In 2018, 2.8 thousand people were employed in newly created jobs in Vitebsk. The greatest activity was shown by the foreign unitary enterprise "BelVillesden" (created 226 jobs), LLC "Modern-Expo" (175), UP "CharmPremier" (132), and UP "Vitebsk Fur Combine" (52). Last year, residents of the regional centre received 42 state subsidies for starting their own businesses.
